Phnom Penh Ranks 2nd in Maintaining Low Levels of Clean Water Loss in Asia

PHNOM PENH: The Director General of the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority, Long Naro said that Phnom Penh ranks second in Asia in terms of maintaining low levels of clean water loss, while Singapore is number one.

Speaking at a press conference on "Local Progress of Communes and Sub-Directions of the Phnom Penh Capital Administration", Director General Long Naro said that in 1993, the water loss rate in Phnom Penh was around 72 cubic meters per 100 cubic meters, but now it has significantly dropped to only 10 cubic meters per 100 cubic meters.

He said, "Normally, the rate of water loss below 5 cubic meters is the best, and for Phnom Penh, we are currently second in Asia with the lowest loss of clean water, while Singapore is number one.”

He also said that the reason for the reduction in water loss was due to the state's ability to respond in a timely manner to repairs and citizen participation.

At present, Phnom Penh has the capacity to produce 592 thousand cubic meters of clean water in 4 factories, and in 2030, the production capacity of Phnom Penh is expected to increase to 1.8 million cubic meters.
